Oklahoma – 2017 – HB 2008 – Dyslexia Handbook

Oklahoma An Act relating to education; creating the Dyslexia and Education Task Force:

There is hereby created, to continue until December 31, 2018, the “Dyslexia and Education Task Force”. The purpose of the
task force shall be to create a dyslexia handbook that will provide guidance for schools, students and parents in identification,  intervention and support of students with dyslexia through accommodations and assistive technology.

The task force shall be comprised of twenty (20) members as specified, including a student with dyslexia, a parent of a student with dyslexia, a classroom teacher, and a special education teacher.

The task force shall:
1. Study how to effectively identify students who have reading difficulties, including dyslexia;
2. Study the response-to-intervention process (RTI), as well as other effective research-based approaches in reading and literacy, to identify the appropriate measures for assisting students with  dyslexia;
3. Make recommendations for appropriate resources and interventions for students with reading difficulties, including dyslexia; and
4. Make this information available in a handbook for schools, teachers and families to use as a resource.
