An Act relating to requirements for the promotion of student from kindergarten through grade twelve based on grade-level proficiency in reading and mathematics.
The bill provides that if a student is below grade level in reading or mathematics based on the achievement levels established by the Iowa testing programs, the school district shall notify the parent and provide intensive remediation services to the student. If the student is not proficient by the end of the school calendar, the student shall be required to attend summer school or be denied promotion. If the student is not proficient by the end of summer school, the student shall be denied promotion to the next grade.
